Samson’s Sweetest Downfall

FB_IMG_1462125506902

With men hidden in the room, she called to him, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!” But he snapped the bowstrings as easily as a piece of string snaps when it comes close to a flame. So the secret of his strength was not discovered.

-Judges 16:9

Lust was Samson’s downfall. And his affair with Delilah was his greatest debacle. Samson, a man who possessed mighty strenght and was chosen by God to deliver the Israelite people from Philistines was ruined. Though married, he visited prostitues and met Delilah. He fell inlove with her, lowered his standards, defiled customary tradition and let lust consume his life. Little did he know that she was just a temptress hired by the enemy to find out the reason for his mighty strenght. Delilah did her job well, whining and nagging until he gave in, revealing the secrets for his strength ultimately cost him his life and honor. Lessons we can learn from the life of Samson:

1. Take heed of you parent’s advice
His father and mother replied, “Isn’t there an acceptable woman among your relatives or among all our people? Must you go to the uncircumcised Philistines to get a wife?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me. She’s the right one for me.” -Judges 14:3

Listen and pay attention to your parent’s advice. Dont forsake them, they are guide to your path. God placed authorities and people in your life to lead you into making wise and best decisions in your life that you wont regret. Take heed of their words, its wisdom from their experiences and past failures and victories. Dont neglect their instructions, dont turn your deaf ear to them, but in humility and great honor consider them knowing they only desire what’s best for you.

2. Emotions can’t be trusted
Burning with anger, he returned to his father’s home. And Samson’s wife was given to one of his companions who had attended him at the feast. -Judges 14:19-20

One moment Samson was so convinced that he wants this Philistine woman to be his wife, but the next he despise her.  His feelings suddenly changed and gave her to his companion because of extreme anger. This only proved that emotions can change from one minute to the next, so you can’t fully trust them and rely on them. Theres no guarantee that what you feel right now for the person will be the same for the next days, months or years to come. Thats why it is important that you submit your emotions and thoughts to God. Dont conform to the patterns of this world. Seek to know God’s good, pleasing and perfect will.

3. Beware not to cross the enemy’s border
One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her. -Judges 16:1

Dont dare cross the enemy’s border. It’s a place where you can see things that are pleasurable and tempting to the eyes. You’ll be vulnerable for attacks and you’ll put yourself in defenseless position. One thing leads to another. If you fully know yourself well, you know your weak spot and the areas you need to guard yourself on. If you cant stand it dont even come closer, dont even dare to think about it. Dont give a small chance for any works of darkness in your life.

4. Don’t Stay too close to temptation
With such nagging she [Delilah] prodded him day after day until he was sick to death of it. -Judges 16:16

If you think you’re standing firm be careful that you dont fall. Dont test your limits neither your tolerance to temptation. When you stay longer in tempting situations, the more likely you are to give in. When you stay in a position when your convictions are being challenged, you are likely to compromise. The consequences of disobedience are devastating. Dont allow anyone no matter how convincing or attractive, to entice you into doing something you know is wrong.

5. Always try to bounce back
Then Samson prayed to theLord, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes. -Judges 16:28

The story of Samson was one of the saddest stories in the bible. He had a supernatural birth, a mighty strength and a great task from God. He was destined for greatness not until he showed cracks on his character and became defeated by his own weakness that caused his downfall. He didnt realized that his mighty strength doesnt from his own or from his long hair but from the presence of God in his life because of his obedience. When God left him, he lost his strength. But for the last time, he prayed to God for strength to do what he had been chosen to do. And God heard his prayer. In pushing down the pillars of the temple he killed many more when he died than while he lived.

Put On the Full Armor of God

FB_IMG_1461951544969

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. -Ephesians 6:13

Our everyday life is a battle. And our Christian walk is no different —  it is a fiery implacable battle. As believers, we are not only called as God’s children and servant but also His warriors–and a warrior’s job is to fight the enemy. Attacks and assaults are everywhere if we are not vigilant, we will easily fall down. This ongoing battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Why do we need to put on the full armor of God?

To protect you
No warrior will dare to go to a battle unprotected and unprepared. God has set out for you well-made weapons of the best materials to protect you from any evil schemes. But in the same way, the enemy has devised a strategic plan to win the battle. This is not like an afternoon athletic contest–this is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil. Without the full armor of God you will easily fall down and be wounded.

To let you know that your strength is not enough
A soldier no matter how strong and mighty will be proven weak without good strategy and a powerful weapon.  Thus far, it only proves that our strength alone is impotent. Our own strength is never enough to oppose Satan, but when we are strong in the Lord, even a little of His strength is sufficient to win any battle.

To create in you courage
God is your back up and His Word is your indispensable weapon. Having confidence of what your Master can do, relying on His mighty power can give you so much courage, and knowing He is fighting with you is an assurance that He is always there to protect you and He will never leave you nor forsake you.

To make you stand firm
You need to stand firm and let nothing move you so you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. It’s the best time to apply them.

To let you fight a good fight
God is strong, and he wants you strong. He wants you to fight a good fight of faith. You’re his your powerful warrior that He knows can kill thousands. The armor of God will make you stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. You’re not trained to just easily fall down and give in by just single attack

To make you finish strong
This is not an easy battle. You need the full armor of God throughout the battle. Take all the help you can get. It’s far more than you can handle on your own. You need to last in the battle so when everything is over, you’re still standing strong and you can shout your shout of victory.

The Power of the Cross

FB_IMG_1461869116368

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” –Galatians 3:17

Growing up in a Christian nation where churches are just few blocks away, and going to church is just a dull moral concern, its no doubt why you will grow up so over familiar of the cross. It has become a neglected overrated religious symbol you can find everywhere. It was devoid of its power and lacking in significance. How easy it is to take God for granted given that situation? I was completely drowned of the deceptive wiles not until Jesus came into the picture and showed me its power. The Power of the Cross:

1. Cross gives new life
The revelation of cross gives me new life. My life has never been the same again when I had a personal encounter of the man hanging on the cross. All my life, I grew up being so familiar of that religious symbol. But I never realized its power to break chains of sin and its power to give me new life. I experienced 180° turn around and I became a new creation. I realized I go to church and turned it to my dwelling place instead of His dwelling place thats why changed life never happened to me.

2. Cross demonstrates perfect love
No person in this world will lay down their life for a kind and righteous person no matter how they love them. What more for a selfish, rotten person who would dare to die? The cross demonstrates God’s unreleting love. He didnt die just for the righteous and those who do good. He died for all of us. I found myself on my knees when I experienced that kind of love. He took the fall that was meant for me. He was beaten, ridiculed, humiliated because of me. I was forgiven, He was forsaken. I was accepted, He was condemned. I was humbled that that kind of love exists.

3. Cross sets captives free
I was captived of my selfish desire, sinful nature and arrogance. I was on my way to ruin but God whose love is so unrelenting showed me another way to live. We are made righteous by faith in Jesus Christ. And I now belonged to God and was no longer under the enslavement of the enemy.

4. Cross opens floodgates of blessings
The God who lavishly gives you His own son, his Holy Spirit will also give you abundant blessings. Those who live by faith will certainly received the favor of God. We cannot expect God to do something if we treat the cross as nothing and at the same time.

5. Cross connects you to God
Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life no one can come to the Father except through me. He grants us direct access to the father through the cross. We were separated from God because of sin but God’s gift of eternal life is through Christ Jesus, our Lord.

Winning Battle Against Sin

FB_IMG_1461781508406

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. -James 4:7

Sin is exciting and pleasurable. But slowly as its taking you captive, without you noticing it, your life is ruined. Gradually, you have fallen deeply to the point that you cant move. Dont be helpless and powerless as the enemy ruins your life. Check out the steps here on how to win battle against sin:

1. Give it up!
There will be some point in your life when you will be torn between what you want and what God wants, what’s good versus what’s best, what’s temporary to what will last a lifetime. A time where you will decide which path to take between two completely different roads. A time where decision has to be made to give up and let go in order to fully embrace the choice you made. If you’re struggling really hard, perhaps you need to confront the fact that you’re not yet dead to yourself. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! Someone has to die, not physically of course!

2. Submit yourself to God
You might have tried to change yourself several times but failed. Because its only God who can change you. Submit and surrender yourself to God. It is only Him who can set you free. The start of overcoming temptation is to shift your focus and turn to God. If you’re life is fully submitted to God, you dont have time to entertain sin and temptation. You’re no longer taken captive but a victor and a free man.

3. Resist the Devil
Know the enemy’s territory and dont cross the line. One thing leads to another. Dont think you’re standing strong, lest you fall. Temptations are always pleasurable and pleasing to the eyes, if you know you cant stand it dont even come closer, dont even dare to think about it. One thing to resist the devil is to totally shut it out of your system. Dont give him even a small chance for it surely knows how to take advantage of it. Again, fully submit yourself to God and you can resist the devil.

4. Remember: Only dogs return to its vomit
You dont have the mind of the dog, you have brain so use it. Dont keep coming back to the things you already have let go. You’re already clean and purified, dont go back to the place where you were found dirty and lifeless. Only fools repeat their folly.

5. Always listen to the Voice of Truth
The name ‘devil’ means ‘he who slanders’ or ‘the accuser’. Accusations is one of the greatest strategies the enemy uses to exercise control over people. Always choose to listen the voice of truth. While its main goal is to fill you with sorrow, regrets of the past and condemnation of what you did wrong. God voice offers you grace and relentless loves, a gift of new beginning, a life filled with beautiful promises and a future full of hope. All those arguments were already cancelled at the cross.

6. Enjoy your New Life
There is no way the enemy can enter any territories guarded by God. There is no place for evil and curses when the presence and blessing of God is present. Enjoy your new life. Remain in God and He will remain in you.

Becoming a Strong Man to Defeat the Enemy

FB_IMG_1461690592513

In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.

-Mark 3:25

No one can ruin your life unless you allow them to. No one can steal the seed of greatness God has planted in your life unless you let them to. When I surrendered my life to God back in College I know I was already redeemed, restored and renewed. I was set free from the dominions of the enemy, from my insecurities, negative thinking  and poor self image. I was forgiven from all the things I’ve done wrong. From being a victim, God made me a victor. But along the way, its true that the enemy will not allow us to live a victorious life. It will continuously remind you of your past, condemn you of your shortcomings and weaknesses. It tries to take you captive and bind you again. Though we spend years building our life the enemy is always ready, like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour-to steal, to kills and to destroy your life. But God has come to give us life, a life to the full. Take a look at the ways to become a strong man to defeat the enemy:

1. Strengthen your faith
Soak yourself with the word of God. Fill yourself with the promises of God so you dont have time for the deception of the enemy. God wants you live life to the fullest and not to the foolish. You’re weak spiritually because you deprive yourself of your spiritual food. You lack faith and enthusiasm because you let yourself be over expose to the things of this world while you’re being under expose to the things of God. To strengthen your faith, seek God, thirst for His Word. No one else but you who will greatly benefit when you reach your level of spiritual maturity.  If your spiritually healthy, everything else follows. Things falls into its rightful places, though challenges and problems are inevitable you can still fight a good fight and be victorious.

2. Stay focus and settle the arguments in your mind
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. -Mark 3:25

Settle the arguments in your mind. Confront them with the word of God. Dont ignore it and dont think of running away from it. Face it, seek for the truth and the truth will set you free. Stay focus and dont lose sight of your destination. Making a decision and standing up for it is a real strength of character. Put your feet in the right place and stand firm. Make a decision and remain steadfast in the path you have chosen. Dont waver, dont doubt because the person who has unsettled mind never reach any destination or achieve anything worthwhile.

3. Be with people who will bring out the best in you
People can only either bring out the best in you or the worst in you. How can a person without a strength in character encourage you? How can problematic and depressed person motivate you? How can a mediocre mind push you to keep achieving more and go to your next level? Its true that you are who you hang out with. Always choose to be with people who will bring out the best in you. Being with yourself alone will not do you any good either. Take advantage of wisdom that comes from the experiences of great people.

Keep the Faith | Pursuing righteousness

The incredible feeling of finally knowing God for real is overwhelming, the joy of a new found relationship with God is beyond words can express. But with each passing day, as you realized not all journey is always smooth and full of the joys of spring. Somewhere along the way, doubts are formed and inner conflicts arose. Your faith is tested, your resistance to temptation and pleasure is challenged, your character and integrity are carefully examined. Remain firm and steadfast in your pursuit of righteousness, purity and in faith. Constantly seek God’s direction and do your fair share to keep the faith.

1. Do not be equally yoke with unbeliever

Now that you have known God, you’re no longer living under the slavery of sin, you were freed from any curses and death, you were unchain from your futile and worldly thinking. God revealed to you the things of the Spirit that unbeliever don’t fully understand, for them its foolishness and illogical but to you its life and power. Don’t be equally deceive with unbelievers with their flowery words, intellectual arguments or witty retorts. But in faithfulness stand firm and fight the good fight of faith, being confident of what is to come.

2. Touch no unclean things
Purify yourself from everything that contaminates body and spirit. Your body is the temple of God but He cant dwell in you if you’re compromising and playing with sin. “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” (2 Corinthians 6:16-17)

3. Dont do things in secret
The things that we do in secret are the things we’re not proud of. We kept it hidden in the dark, locked in the safest place we know that no one could ever find. But you cant hide it forever. Everything that is hidden will be shown, and everything that is secret will be made known. Trying to hide sin from God is like running from your shadow you can never get away. All the skeletons in your closet should be confessed because unconfessed sin can block you from God.

4. Break down the idols in your heart
Idols are anything you place above God, these are not just graven images in your house. An idol would be anything that you set up in your heart that gets in the way of your relationship with Him. Or something that distracts you from focusing on God. May it be your job, a hobby, or even relationship that occupies most of your time, energy and resources that sooner becomes a stronghold and powerful argument of the enemy in your life. Start breaking down your idols and start focusing on the future that God wants you to have. Seek the things of God and his perfect will. You are now a new creation. Your old self was gone, and the new has come.

5. Say ‘no’ to idleness
Idle minds are the devil’s playground and idle hands are the his workshop. A person who doesn’t have something particular to occupy himself with doing will be tempted to occupy himself with sin and thus can be easily distracted. The devil can give it something to do. If we are working hard, we have no time to mess around and perhaps get ourselves in trouble.

What to do while waiting for God’s promises?

In this world where making a pledge means nothing and giving a vow just cause severe damage. How can you cling to God’s promise when the world is telling you that His promises are just nonsense and non-existing? People make a promise and dont keep, in the end it leads to trust issue, misgiving and fuss. It happens because its who they are. But not with God. With Him a ‘yes’ is a ‘yes’ and a ‘no’ is a ‘no’, theres no place for ‘maybe’, ‘perhaps’ or ‘I’ll try’. With God his promises are sealed and are meant to be fulfilled.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. -2Corinthians 2:20

What to do while waiting for God’s promises?

1. Pursue God in prayer
Prayer is spending time with God while waiting for the fulfillment of His promises. God is a gracious and generous God, compassionate and abounding in love. He can just give everything that you need but He doesnt allow it. He wants you to see Him as ‘Panginoon’ (Lord) not just ‘pahingi-non’. Men have tendency to seek God when they are in great needs and problems or during bad days, and forget Him in good days. God wants to spend time with you in prayer. Talk to him, lay down all your concerns and worries, share the deepest desire of your heart in prayer. The joy of being with you in prayer is what matters most to Him.

2. Develop a child like faith
A child has a strong confidence in his father. Knowing that his father will do what he promised. A child like faith is crucial while waiting, it drives you to move forward and keep the faith. Put your trust and hope in the Lord for He wont surely fail you. I remembered when I was little, every time I want something from my dad, I ask him to make a promise. If he thinks what I want is good for me he will say ‘yes’. In the same way, God is a promise keeper, that’s who He is and he cant disown himself.

2. Trust his timing
A God given promise will be fulfilled, not in your desired time but on his perfect time. Learn to trust his timing for he surely knows what’s best for you at the right time under the right circumstances. He has made everything beautiful in its time.

3. Love the giver more than the gift
More than what His hands could give, or the blessings that will overflow, learn to love the giver more than just the gift. He is not just a magical genie that once your wishes are fulfilled, no strings attach and you can go on with your life. God wants to gjve you a gift that will last a lifetime and not just for a short while. Dont be so overwhelm with the gift that we neglect the giver. God sometimes put you in a waiting situation to make you realize that it is Him who gave you the gift and you’re ought to appreciate Him and not just the gift.

4. Enjoy the whole process of waiting
Maintain your enthusiasm and just enjoy the whole process. Waiting produces in you patient, endurance and faithfulness. Enjoy the whole process of waiting and dont complain and dont waver. Have a humble heart to be teachable before God. He is teaching you lessons from even the most mundane things.

5. Know your identity in God
As a child of God, your Father in heaven wants the best for you. He reserved great things for you to enjoy.  He doesnt want to see you suffer or be in deep pain because it doubles the pain that he feels. Know your identity in Christ, believing that all things work together for good for those who love Him.

6. Have a revelation of who God is
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? (Numbers 23:19) The level of you faith will just depend on your revalation of who God is. Do you just see Him as a powerless man hanging on the cross, a display who can’t do anything or just a mere man who just preach the gospel? Or a great God who holds the world on His hands.
